The London Lomography Thursday No. 2
London
WC2H 7HY, 8 Great Newport Street, The Photographers' Gallery, May 15th, 2008 18:30

Tags: thursday, event, and londonThis year’s second London Lomography Thursday event organized by the Lomography London Ambassadors Linda and Karen (with special assistant of Lomography Newcastle Ambassador Helen) stands fully in respectable honour of the princess of plastic: The Diana+ lives up to its name creating dreamy, nearly royal images, while dodging all arrogance. Just like its eponym, the Princess of Wales, she sets her allures in beauty and splendour. Such extraordinary grandeur calls for the finest company!

Sopot
Poland, Sopot

Tags: recreational, beach, and leisureSopot is a small town up in the north of Poland, at the freezing Baltic sea, famous in the area as a beach resort – very charming indeed, with its mansions and the old Grand Hotel from the 20’s. Together with Gdansk and Gdynia, Sopot is part of the “Trojmiasto” (a city-triplet), being connected to their big neighbours by train. It is famous because it was the preferred Baltic beach from the richest people in Europe before the World War II and because of its long pier – the longest in Europe. As the rest of Poland, it was invaded and attacked first by Germans, then by Soviets, during the war, but luckily it was not destroyed like Gdansk or Warsaw. I was there last year, in Polish spring-time, and had the opportunity to try the delicious chocolate at the pleasant Monte Casino Street, breathe the fresh, gelid air coming from the North Pole, listen to the extremely refined new Polish music (Olo Walicki, Piotr Zastrozny) and have a punching visual experience with Asia Zastrozna’s photographic work (www.joannazastrozna.com.pl). Really unforgettable, though, was to walk at the seashore and discover that the water is so cold that I could not even touch the wet sand on bare feet… even though, some brave children seemed to have terrific fun in the water!

Tags: tower and architectureA very good laboratory. I believe Kuala Lumpur City Centre is a very good spot for every Lomographer in Malaysia. Although it is a typical tourist sight, I still like to go shooting there, especially some experimental shots.

Donkey Sanctuary
Isle of Wight, Wroxall, Isle of Wight, UK

Tags: sanctuary, zoo, animals, and natureThe Sanctuary was established in 1987 to provide a safe, permanent home for any donkey in distress or otherwise in need of care and attention. I just love this place, apart from a lot of sad looking donkeys in some fields there’s not much else to see, but the donkeys are so lovely and friendly – even though they look melancholic and depressed – and they just love to have their ears and backs scratched. They make this extraordinary “Hee-Haw” noise that guarantees to bring a smile on your face. When the donkeys are hungry they will try to eat anything, Lomo cameras included, if only they could reach them.

Wightlink Ferry
Between Isle of Wight and Portsmouth
posted by janette on May 9th, 2008 under the category locations, 0 comments so far
Tags: recreationThe Wightlink Ferry wouldn’t necessarily be a favourite Lomo location for me, if it were not for the fact that in order to travel anywhere away from the island where I live, the journey always starts with a ferry ride. The crossing on the car ferry takes about 40 minutes and I make that trip about once a month. I spend much ofthe crossing time looking for new Lomo shots and it’s interesting how a place that is very familiar can often offer up new opportunities for pictures. Different lighting and weather conditionscan transform a common sight into a memorable picture.
