Yashica Electro 35GTN
posted by iamwen on October 2nd, 2008, 6 comments so far
Tags: yashica, 35mm, and rangefinderA black version of Yashica Electro 35 GSN with aperture priority. I guess everyone have heard of rangefinder camera. But I don’t think everyone know how it function exactly. Rangefinder cameras allow the photographer to measure the distance precisely and capture a photo which is sharp in focus. In the center of viewfinder, you will see two images, when object is in focus; the two image will overlapped and become one image as you turn the focus ring. So, let me introduce the Yashica Electro 35GTN range finder camera to all of you!

Kiev 4 (user review)
posted by vicuna on August 11th, 2008, 3 comments so far
Tags: Kiev and rangefinderWhen I received my Kiev 4 camera, I was happy like a child to hold in my hands such a beautiful Russian camera. Well, Russian it is, even if it’s well known that the Kiev cameras were copies of the German Contax cameras. Some like to say that these cameras are German Contax made in the USSR… But the Kiev 4 is much more than the “poor man’s Contax” – it’s a real stunning camera with the fantastic Jupiter 8 lens.

Fed 5 – a deadstock tale by jaalvarez

Tags: fed 5, russian, and rangefinderFor more than 20 years, I had been looking for a mechanical camera (WITHOUT batteries!). Having heard about the Fed 5 from “The Photographers’ Gallery”, in London, I went to England to buy it. I like the FED 5 so much because it’s a very strong camera: you can take photos on the beach, the mountain, in very cold places or in very hot ones. You just have to make sure there’s film in it. I like to listen to “her” mechanical song when she’s shooting. And, of course, there’s the 80´s design – no plastic, just metal with metal. So what are the Fed 5’s best features? The range of speeds; you can do everything with all the speeds, but I like the “B”. The metering system is great. Whether the aperture is small or large, the Fed 5 achieves amazing depth of focus. You can even approximate the distance by looking at its scale (don’t think, just shoot!!)
